In his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Carter showcased why he was one of the most highly regarded prospects entering the NFL. Despite falling just short of capturing the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year title—which went to Will Anderson Jr.—Carter’s debut season was anything but ordinary.
The numbers speak for themselves. Over the course of 16 games, Carter amassed 33 tackles, six sacks, nine quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. Remarkably, he also returned a fumble for a touchdown. These statistics placed him second among rookie defensive tackles in sacks, tied for second in quarterback hits, and tied for first in tackles for loss with eight.

Carter drew parallels between his current role in the NFL and his collegiate experience at Georgia, noting, "I'm looking forward to it a lot. It reminds me when I was at Georgia. I was behind JD [Jordan Davis], Travon Walker, all of them good guys. And when them guys went into the draft, it was me and my class coming up, and we had to take that step and take a big role in trying to win another national championship." This sense of stepping up when called upon has been a constant theme in Carter’s career.
For Carter, the transition from college to the NFL also meant facing tougher competition. "I look at it as the same. It's just the league. It's going to be way better competition," he acknowledged. However, he embraced the challenge, demonstrating a mature perspective on his goals and aspirations. "I keep my goals private, man, because I didn't get my defensive player of the year. I just want to be the best. I want to connect with my team. The main goal is to win the Super Bowl," Carter stated.
Reflecting on his preparation for this significant step, Carter noted that the break he took before his debut season was the longest since his freshman year in college. "I was ready to play for a long time. That was the longest break I had from football since the start of my freshman year in college. So just getting back to it, I was ready, and I just made a play," he said. This readiness was evident in his performance, as he consistently adapted to the faster pace and heightened competition of the NFL.
As the Eagles look to build on their successes, Jalen Carter’s remarkable rookie season provides a solid foundation. His versatility, combined with his ability to perform in high-pressure situations, positions him as a cornerstone for Philadelphia’s defense in the coming years.
