Morgan Moses to Miss Time with Knee Injury
In a setback for the New York Jets, right tackle Morgan Moses will be sidelined for a couple of games following a knee injury he sustained during the Week 3 game against the New England Patriots. The incident unfolded late in the third quarter when Moses was involved in a collision that led to him being brought down by edge rusher Josh Uche.
The injury occurred during a second-and-25 play from the New England 46-yard line, a tense moment marked by a defensive assault spearheaded by Deatrich Wise Jr. and Josh Uche. At 33 years old, Moses was sacked by Uche, and it was clear that he was in trouble as he was seen limping off the field and was quickly taken to the locker room for further evaluation.
Head coach Robert Saleh provided an update on Moses' condition, confirming that the veteran would be out of action for a few games. "Morgan Moses will miss a couple of games due to a knee injury he suffered during the Week 3 win over New England," Saleh explained. He also assured that while Moses would miss some time, his injury isn't severe enough to place him on injured reserve. "While he'll miss time, Moses won't be out long enough to put him on injured reserve," Saleh added.
This injury comes as an unfortunate blow for Moses, who had been a key player for the Jets since being acquired in an offseason trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets traded a fourth and sixth-round pick to Baltimore in exchange for Moses and also received a fourth-round pick as part of the deal. His presence at right tackle has been instrumental through the first three games of the regular season.
Stepping up in Moses' absence will be rookie Olu Fashanu, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Fashanu, who has shown promise in the early stages of his career, will have big shoes to fill. Meanwhile, Tyron Smith will continue to secure the left tackle position.
Moses' absence will undoubtedly test the depth and resilience of the Jets' offensive line, a unit that has received both praise and scrutiny in equal measure this season. As the team looks to maintain its momentum, they will have to do so without the experience and leadership of Moses, at least for the next couple of games.
The Jets will need to rally and adapt, leaning on their younger players and hope that Moses' recovery is swift. Fans and teammates alike will be keenly awaiting his return, as his contributions on the field have been significant.
Looking Ahead
With Moses sidelined, the focus will shift to how the Jets can maintain their line stability and protect their quarterback. The reliance on Fashanu to step up in a high-pressure role will be critical. His performance in the upcoming games will be closely scrutinized as the Jets aim to keep their aspirations alive in what has already been a challenging season.
For now, the team and fans hope that Moses' recovery will be swift and that his return will see the offensive line reinforced once more, ready to tackle the remainder of the season with renewed vigor. Until then, it will be a period of adjustment and resilience for Robert Saleh’s squad.
